The aim of this excursion is to show you a little of the history, culture, landscape and gastronomy of our people, starting with the São Jorge Cheese, which has a Protected Designation of Origin - produced exclusively from raw cow's milk and with its strong, slightly spicy flavour, which becomes more pronounced as it matures; or Queijo Canada, where the traditional way of making it is still maintained, made only from the milk of the owner's cows - a cheese that dates back to its origins; Viewpoints with breathtaking views of the neighbouring islands, high cliffs and breathtaking escarpments and enchanting lagoons; Monuments shaken by the relentless volcanoes of the early 19th century; Handicrafts, where the traditions of creating pieces in wool, linen or cotton are maintained in the creaking of the old wooden looms, such as clothes from times gone by, bedspreads with geometric motifs in bright or natural colours, napkins, embroidery, among other handmade arts; Arabic coffee painted and grown in the fajãs, contrary to the nature of its survival at a measly few metres above sea level, unlike the rest of the world, which is produced at altitude. It is even considered by coffee experts to be unique in Europe and, perhaps, unique in the Northern Hemisphere, where it is possible to visit the coffee plantations and learn about the process until it reaches the cup, with an intense, fruity flavour that you can taste and ask for more; and a Forest Reserve of great beauty and natural diversity, home to various species of fauna and flora.
