The activity starts by walking along the road along the south coast of the island, being possible to have a breathtaking view over the Lagoa do Fogo mountain, green pastures and over the Ilhéu de Vila Franca do Campo. Then you enter the volcanic caldera of Furnas, one of the places where you can contemplate the volcanic manifestations such as fumaroles and boilers. After passing through the parish of Furnas, visitors leave the volcanic crater and enter the Povoação. This trail begins in the parish of Faial da Terra. Initially, one climbs to the place of Sanguinho, which received the name of the abundant endemic species with the same name (Frangula azorica), along a steep path, with a breathtaking view over the parish and the ocean. This trail continues through a forest of Cryptomeria (Cryptomeria japonica) and some other species, such as the Conteira (Hedychium gardnerianum) and Incense (Pittosporum undulatum) to the waterfall of Salto do Prego, one of the most beautiful places on the island. This is the perfect place for a picnic lunch and also to bathe in the crystal clear waters of the cascade. The return is made along the parallel path to a stream that flows from the waterfall to the parish of Faial da Terra, among the dense vegetation. The return to Ponta Delgada includes a comfort stop in the village of Povoação, being possible to try the local pastries, especially the "Fofas da Povoação". On the way back to Ponta Delgada, you cross to the north coast and can see the only tea fields in Europe, the mountains and the coastline of the north coast, passing through Ribeira Grande, the second largest city on the island and then crossing to the south coast through the narrowest part of the island, only 8 km. After a short journey on the south coast, the activity ends with the arrival in Ponta Delgada.
